Designing from the Ground Up: Crafting a Bespoke Home in Miami

Welcome to the first installment of our exciting blog series, where we take you on a journey through the creation of a unique bespoke home in Miami, built from the ground up. As an interior design firm, we are thrilled to share our philosophy, inspiration, and the vision behind this extraordinary project.

For quite some time, we’ve had the privilege of collaborating with a developer on a project that holds a special place in our hearts. Our aim from the very beginning was to exercise complete creative control, shaping every aspect of this project from concept to completion. We were determined to infuse it with the finest materials and furnishings the industry has to offer, ensuring that the end result reflects our commitment to excellence in interior design.

As we embarked on this remarkable journey, we recognized the significance of harmonizing our creation with the surroundings and history of the architecture in the Miami area. Miami’s architectural evolution, especially after the Great Depression, saw the incorporation of functional Mediterranean revival architecture. This style profoundly influenced the characteristics of homes developed in the following years. Miami’s architectural story also embraces the beauty of art deco, and this evolution mirrors an embrace of futurism and playful modernity in the designs.

Embracing the tropical climate, it was imperative that our design would withstand the elements and provide a sanctuary that beautifully blended with its surroundings. To achieve this, we incorporated several key design elements. Our home includes wide overhanging eaves to provide additional shade, promoting a sense of outdoor living even in the most sweltering Miami afternoons. The concrete block screen walls were strategically employed to allow for shade and ventilation, ensuring that the interior remains comfortable and inviting throughout the day.

While these architectural elements pay homage to the rich history of Miami’s architecture, they also provide practical benefits. We aimed to create a space that allowed for natural ventilation, promoting a cross-breeze effect that makes the home feel open, fresh, and interconnected with the vibrant outdoor environment.

In every step of the design process, we held fast to certain non-negotiable principles. First and foremost, this house needed to be timeless, serving as a lasting testament to our commitment to creating enduring beauty. Additionally, it had to be not just beautiful, but highly functional. This home is meant for a large, vibrant family that enjoys entertaining, and our design reflects this. From the built-in gym and spa to the double-height ceiling living room, guest bedroom suite, and two in-home offices, every space within this home is meticulously designed to cater to the diverse needs and desires of the family.

Our philosophy for this project can be distilled into a simple mantra: form meets function. We’re creating a home that not only serves as a piece of art but also becomes a beloved, dynamic space where life happens.
