A note from the designer…
Hey there, it’s Manon, putting pen to paper (or rather, fingers to keyboard) to share a glimpse into the world of Atelier Roux. Design, for me, is a daily exploration—a dance between the past, the present, and the potential of the future. Just like Picasso had his various artistic periods, Atelier Roux mirrors this constant evolution, shaped by new ideas and visuals that captivate my imagination. That’s the magic of art.
I wanted to share with you some of the things that have fueled me throughout my life and impacted how I view the world. These are interior design art concepts that have inspired me.
Film Influence
One profound source of inspiration for me is Jacques Tati’s “Mon Oncle.” This film, with minimal dialogue, captures the essence of modernism, human nature, and behavior. Tati’s unique perspective has profoundly shaped my approach, fostering spaces that communicate beyond words.
Architectural Roots
I had the privilege of growing up in the vibrant cities of Paris and New York, and summers were spent immersed in the beauty of Michigan. During my formative years, I attended Cranbrook Kingswood School in Bloomfield Hills, MI. The campus, a masterpiece designed by the visionary Eliel Saarinen, captivated me from the start. Living there as a boarding student for four transformative years was an experience like no other.
Brick expressionism and brickwork hold a special place in my design heart. The structured nature of bricks, while seemingly rigid, unfolds a unique beauty through the creation of intricate patterns and fluid movement. It’s this paradoxical blend of order and artistic freedom that captures my imagination.
Bauhaus Philosophy
The Bauhaus philosophy, where form seamlessly meets function, has become a guiding light in my approach to interior design projects. While I may not align with the idea of mass production, the revolutionary mindset of the Bauhaus movement has left an indelible mark on how I conceptualize and execute projects. It’s not just about creating aesthetically pleasing spaces; it’s about achieving a harmonious marriage between form and function, mirroring the innovative spirit that Bauhaus brought to the design world.
Mid-Century Revival
The revival of European mid-century design resonates strongly with today’s interior designers, including Atelier Roux. Timeless forms by visionaries such as Paolo Buffa, Gigi Radice, Osvaldo Borsani, Jean Royère, and others inspire a contemporary reinterpretation of classic design principles, breathing new life into modern spaces.
Moody & Bold
My love for moody rooms with bold colors stems from a desire to create distinctive atmospheres. Moody interiors, with rich hues, serve as expressive canvases, setting a dramatic mood. This affinity for bold colors adds vibrancy and allows for a personalized design perspective at Atelier Roux. Whether it’s a deep navy or a fiery red, these bold hues transform spaces, enriching our design philosophy with a sense of individuality and emotion.

Taking inspiration from T.H. Robsjohn-Gibbings, a master of uncluttered spaces, his affinity for Greco-Roman design and classical principles serves as a perpetual guiding force in our approach.
